Forty.
Today happens to be my 40th birthday. It also happens to be the end of British Summer Time. Technically, it means my birthday lasts for 25 hours!
So how am I celebrating this year? Gillian and I are on a strict no–food, no–drink diet in an attempt to bring our weight under control. So I’ve turned into a monk. A monk with lots of toys.
Here I am, sitting by the kitchen table having a fresh black coffee surrounded by gadgets: a MacBook Pro; two iPhone 2G’s; one iPhone 3G; a pink iPod Nano (Laura’s, obviously); and a brand new birthday present extraordinaire in the shape of a sleek Nikon D60. This is an attempt to keep myself busy and not think about things I usually should be doing on a weekend, let alone on my birthday!
I can hear the girls upstairs in the play room engaged in some sort of sticking and glueing activity as far as I can tell. I love hearing them chat away. I think Gillian is having a nap. It’s cozy down here in the kitchen and Johnny Cash’s The Man Comes Around is on the HK iPod unit (another gadget, natch).
I’m happy. So begineth my fourth decade on Planet Earth.
